Oscar-Verleihung 2006

Am 5. März wurden in Los Angeles die 78. Academy Awards verliehen. Die Show fand wie in jedem Jahr im Kodak Theatre statt.

Die großen Gewinner des Abends lauten "Crash" und "Die Geisha", die jeweils drei der begehrten Awards für sich entscheiden konnten. Ebenfalls mit drei Oscars vertreten: "King Kong". Das Drama "Crash" wurde mit dem wichtigsten Award des besten Films ausgezeichnet und setzte sich überraschend gegen eine harte Konkurrenz durch. Außerdem gewann der Film den Preis für das beste Drehbuch und besten Schnitt.

"Die Geisha" räumte insgesamt drei Awards ab, darunter der Preis für die besten Kostüme und Kinematographie.

Reese Witherspoon konnte sich für ihre Rolle der June Carter in der Johnny Cash-Verfilmung "Walk the Line" über den Oscar der besten Hauptdarstellerin freuen. Ansonsten ging der Film trotz insgesamt fünf Nominierungen leer aus.

Der Award des besten Hauptdarstellers ging an Philip Seymour Hoffman für seine Rolle in "Capote".

Enttäuschung durfte es beim Team von "Brokeback Mountain" gegeben haben. Der Film galt als Favorit und war in acht Kategorien nominiert (u. a. bester Film und bester Hauptdarsteller). Gewonnen hat der Film nur drei Awards und wurde für beste Regie, besten Soundtrack und bestes adaptieres Drehbuch ausgezeichnet.
