Jenni Falconer: You're here to promote your new movie which is a complete throwaway from "Dawson's Creek". It's like you're actually rebelling against that role.

JVDB: Well yeah, somewhat, it’s the complete opposite of Dawson’s Creek. I mean Dawson’s Creek is kinda fun and escapist, and this is a really biting social commentary.

Ben Shepherd: Is that how you describe it?

JVDB: Yeah, I guess you could, it’s based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel.

BS: Who wrote American Psycho.

JVDB: Yes, and actually my character is the American Psycho’s little brother.

BS: Which is quite weird isn’t it. I love the tie, but we had real problem trying to find a clip that didn’t involve swearing or something to do with drugs. [...] Just explain the story briefly for us, but without being rude.

JVDB: It’s basically a couple of college students with a little too much money and too many choices. And they get into a lot of trouble.

BS: And have a lot of fun

JVDB: They do have a lot of fun. It’s kinda the dark side of college. It’s life, that *missed words*. It’s a little too much for America, they were a little too upset by it.

JF: The thing is when I was watching it, it didn’t symbolise my student life. It’s kinda just a far off extremity. Cos we were like, ‘we didn’t live student lives like that’.

JVDB: Well, that lifestyle *missed words*. You’re obviously a little bit healthier than the people in this movie, so you didn’t choose that.

JF: Your character isn’t likeable, does this mean you’re going to alienate all your Dawson’s fans. Or is this a bid to move away from Dawson’s Creek.

JVDB: I just think it’s a chance to explore the sides of life that Dawson’s Creek doesn’t cover. All those dirty little corners.

BS: Do you get a little bit fed up with always being associated with him, because he’s been such an important part of your career?

JVDB: Yeah, it’s been a great opportunity. If people associate me with him, then it’s kinda a compliment in a round about way.

BS: Because you and the rest of the cast have kinda become the young Brat Pack. I mean all of you are doing well, Joshua Jackson, Katie Holmes. You kinda represent that teen genre. And Jennifer Love Hewitt in her own right, have gone through and become really well known stars.

JVDB: Through the teen machine.

JF: Are any of you teenagers?

JVDB: Erm, Mich..... no. Michelle actually was, she plays Jen, she’s the youngest.

JF: Now this series, the last series that was shown in the States is now being shown here on Channel 4. And we’re kinda building up to are Dawson and Joey ever going to get together? The next series that you’ve just done, are they going to get together.

BS: Is there going to be a wedding?

JF: Is it going to actually happen because we’re wanting it to happen

BS: Is it going to end?

JVDB: It will end. Eventually. But I don’t know what the ultimate end is going to be.

JF: Now Dawson.... I just called you Dawson, can you believe that? *laughs* James, just quickly. It’s Valentine’s Day next Friday. I’m very keen... Obviously, I mean, you’re engaged... are you a romantic kind of guy, are you going to be wining and dining your fiance? Or are you a Valentine humbug?

JVDB: ‘Valentine Humbug’? *laughs* I’ve got to check my work schedule. But I’ll see. If I can get time off...then...yeah...then we’ll do something fun. If I’m working it’s kinda tough.

BS: *laughs* Sounds romantic.

JF: Well, have a nice Valentine’s Day. And when are you getting married?

JVDB: Erm, I’m getting married next Autumn.

BS: Awesome. Well, good luck with that. And let’s hope the British audiences react a bit better to the film than American’s. Or they can take the film better....

JVDB: Yeah, you know they have so far. I think for America it’s kinda tough to look in the mirror, for here it’s kinda like looking through a window.
