Let's Get Busy! The Dawson's Darling Comes to Chat
This week, Busy Philipps, who plays Audrey on Dawson's Creek, was in the house to answer all your burning Creek Q's--including the chances of a seventh season and what it's really like to work on the show.
From Faith_Podunk,_NJ: I thought you sang great last year. Will we hear your pipes again?
Busy: Oh, yes, you will. Big-time. Audrey's going to be joining a punk band. It's going to be fun. I hope to release a CD by the end of the year.
From megan: Did you feel welcomed when you joined the cast of Dawson's Creek?
Yeah, definitely. Everyone was really great to me. Katie was nice. Michelle and I hit it off right away. It was weird coming into a show in its fifth season, so that was...it was a new experience. But overall, everyone was really great.
From deanna: Do you think there's any chance of a seventh season, or is everyone heading off to their film careers?
I don't think there's much of a chance, seeing as how everyone has said, 'Hey, it's the last year,' I think everybody's ready to move on. I think they've been ready for a while.
From Robbie: Is Audrey's personality similar to yours? If so, how?
I guess. A little. We're both very outgoing, and I use the word bunny a lot in real life. They actually stole that from me for the show.
From Tiffany: Busy, I love you on the show. Any hope for Joey and Pacey? I'm dying to know.
In case you can't tell, I think the Dawson and Joey storyline is the storyline this season. The writers don't tell me anything, but I'd say don't hold your breath. Also, I want to give a shout-out to my friends in the chat room--Emily and Liana. And my sister!
From Phyl: This is a question regarding your previous show Freaks and Geeks. Do you stay in touch with anyone from the show?
Yeah, I do. It's really difficult because everyone is working all the time in different places. But if I get back to Los Angeles and Linda Cardellini is in town, or Jason, or Seth Rogen, we'll hang out. Seth comes to all my parties. Every one of them! And Jason and Linda are normally out of town. I was trying to find a place for Seth this year on Dawson's Creek. I wanted to get him a three-episode arc, but so far, none of the parts have been worthy of his talents.
From adelewalsh: What was it like acting with Linda Cardellini?
It was fantastic. Linda is one of the most talented, beautiful, effervescent women I know. She's who I want to be when I grow up. I can't say enough about Linda. She really helped me out. When I did Freaks and Geeks, it was really the first job I'd ever had, and she showed me the ropes. I love her. I love her. I'm in love with her!
From sooZeO: How did you get your start in show biz? Have you ever been to Worthington and actually experienced the students there in order to be a true Worthington Girl on Dawson's Creek?
Worthington is not a real school! Do not apply, because it doesn't exist. But I did go to Loyola Marymount University for two years before I got Freaks and Geeks, and that's when I left school. I always wanted to be an actor. And things just sort of fell into place for me when I got to Los Angeles. I'm one of those success stories that can be hard for struggling actors to hear because it all just fell into my lap.
From Jenn: I was just in Wilmington--so cute! Was wondering what you and the rest of cast thought of shooting show in such a small town, as compared with Hollywood?
Probably the biggest problem I have with it is that I don't get to see my friends, my boyfriend and my family. That makes working difficult sometimes, because my friends and boyfriend ground me in this insane business. As for Wilmington, it' s a great place. I like it a lot. I just wish I could transplant all my friends and family here--or Wilmington back to Los Angeles.
From Lizzy: Since your character and Pacey are ending things, what are the chances of you getting a hot new man?
What's important for Audrey this year is to focus on herself and to be okay without a hot man. As we know, not all girls need a hot man to complete them. But I can tell you there's going to be a little bit of a tryst with someone new, but I don't want to say who. It'll ruin it.
From Tiina: Who would you most like to work with in the entertainment business?
I love Parker Posey and Reese Witherspoon. There aren't enough funny women. I like to think I am a funny woman. [Laughs.] But if I got to do a movie with Reese, I would love that.
From zsazsazsu: What would you like to happen for Audrey on Dawson's Creek? Love you on the show, by the way. You revived it.
Thank you. I really wanted her to get married, because I wanted to be in a TV wedding. And it's the last season, so it's feasible. But then they told me it wasn't going to happen with us. So, I'd like to see her be successful at something. We haven't seen her do that, because at this point, she's blowing off school, and she's on a downward spiral. I just hope she figures out what it is she wants to do with her life.
From Joseph: Are you single?
No. I have a boyfriend. But it's not anyone you would know. We sort of have our own Dawson's Creek love affair. I've known him since I was 15.
From KelleyElCajon: What is it like to kiss Joshua Jackson? You guys look great together!
Thank you. I love Josh, most days. I don't know! It's always weird when you have to kiss someone who's not your boyfirend. But it's as pleasant as it can be given that we both have significant others.
From angel_phillipine: What's the sweetest thing a fan has ever done for you?
These girls came to Wilmington and they put together a gift bag of chocolates and kitschy gifts and wrote me a really nice letter. I was overwhelmed. It was the first present I'd ever gotten from a fan. It was sweet. I gave them two of the bracelets I was wearing.
From Kyle: What do you hope to do when the show ends?
I love doing episodic television. I think it's my favorite of all jobs that I've had so far. I'd like to do another show, if there's something good for me next season. I'd like to do a dramedy. I'd also like to do a big feature film at some point, because I've never done one of those. I think it'd be fun.
From tnmatt: Are you scared to be around James Van Der Beek after seeing him in The Rules of Attraction?
I'm supposed to go to that movie tonight with Michelle, so I guess I'll tell you tomorrow.
From wenzcrazy: I've been a huge fan of Dawson's Creek since it started, and I think that you are the best addition to the show ever! Do you and the cast get along offscreen as well as you do onscreen?
Yeah, we all hang out. It's a small town, so your options are pretty limited. Michelle and I hang out all the time. The new girls, Bianca and Megan, are pretty cool. We all go to bars or movies or whatever.
Busy: Bye, everyone. Thanks for your questions. I appreciate it. Watch the Creek!
