Hi James!
Is this the final season for Dawson's Creek, or is it still up for debate? By the way, you're a great actor - good luck with your future success. Thanks!! To: BewitchedGyrl@aol.com

Thank you so much. I've been told that this is most likely the last year of the show, but no one has announced anything officially yet. Hopefully, we'll all find out for sure soon... Thanks!

Subject: The Rules of Attraction Hey!
How difficult was it for you, as an actor, to transition from Dawson's Creek to the much more dark character you play in "The Rules of Attraction"? Based on the book and previews I've seen, it seems like a pretty radical transformation. Was it fun to mix things up and try something different? Thanks!! To: rfrohlich@yahoo.com

Subject: The Rules of Attraction Dawson is actually fairly removed from who I am - he's a character I play, like any other - so it wasn't quite as hard as you might think. What did make it tricky was shooting both at the same time on two different coasts. But I loved the challenge, and I've never had more fun at work than on the 'Rules' set. At the end of the six weeks, I was exhausted, though. Thanks

'Rules of Attraction' looks awesome!! I was wondering what made you choose a role in such a dark film? Thanks! To: tags0101@hotmail.com

Subject: Rules of Attraction Thanks! I thought the script was so honest, and it was so different from anything I'd ever read before. I was also really excited about the challenge of playing someone who's the polar opposite of the character I play nine months out of the year. When I met Roger Avery, the writer/director (he co-wrote "Pulp Fiction" and wrote & directed "Killing Zoe"), that sealed the deal. He's a mad genius, and he's truly unafraid of what anyone else thinks of him. Bravery like that is inspiring. Thanks

Subject: HeY Hey, did you ever think you were going to grow up and be an actor, or did you have some other career in mind?? To: silverbabe504@hotmail.com
From: James Van Der Beek
Subject: HeY Hey,
When I was kid I always thought I wanted to be a professional baseball or football player. I got a concussion (in gym class) when I was 13, and the doctor said no tackle football that year. I ended up doing my first play, and I fell in love with it. Thanks

Subject: Were you a fan? Hi,
Were you a fan of Brett Easton Ellis and/or American Psycho before you were given the script? Thanks! To: dg_yumyum@yahoo.com
From: James Van Der Beek
Subject: Were you a fan? I had tried to read American Psycho - Josh gave it to me - but I don't think I was ready for it, at first. As I got older, though, I grew to really appreciate Bret Easton Ellis. He's one of those unique writers I'm just glad is out there. I met him for the first time last night, and he said he loves this movie. That made my year. Thanks for the question, James -------------------------------------------------------------- James Van Der Beek's bei "Total Request Live with Carson Daly" am 11. Oktober 2002 (I missed the first line or two) Carson: There's James shaking a few hands. If you start one you gotta finish them. C'mon over here. Wassup, homey? Come on over here and say hi to this. What do you think about this as I came to the window just a few minutes ago? [points out the window down to the sidewalk below the studio, where a girl is holding a sign up] Carson: [reading sign] "James, I'll do anything to meet you. Let me up!" James: Wow. Carson: This is what I say. I'd like to see what she's gonna do-- James: Oh, God. Carson: --Just to meet you. It is pouring down rain outside. We gotta bring her up. Are you cool with that? James: Yeah. Carson: Look at her face. Yeah you, come on up. [girl starts jumping up and down] Uh-oh, watch this. She's coming up. Easy. [she ducks under the barricade] James: Oh, boy. Carson: Oh, boy. James: [laughs] I have a feeling I'm about to get wet. Carson: That's good. So how are you, man? It's good to have you on the show. James: I'm good. I'm real good. Carson: Welcome back to TRL. James: Thank you. Carson: Geez, where do we start with you? First of all, you're engaged, which I didn't even know. Congratulations! [sounds of great disappointment in the audience] James: [to audience] Thank you. Thank you. Carson: By a show of hands, how many young ladies here actually thought they had a shot with James Van Der Beek? [screeching, applause, lots of hands in the air] [it may be my TV, but it looks as if James actually started blushing] James: Awww. Carson: So that's exciting. You're moving on in more ways than one. Let's talk about Dawson's Creek for a second. Is this it, is this the last season for you? James: From what I've been told, yeah, most likely it will be. Carson: Six years, six years. James: Yeah. [more disappointment in the audience] I'm just a crowd-pleaser today, aren't I? Carson: Yeah, you're delivering all the blows. James: I've won the room, I think. Carson: Tell me a little about Dawson. This guy, seemingly for six years it took him to get the chick in the sack. James: Yep. It's been a long time. Carson: I mean, this is a guy who can get any chick he wants, but all he does on Dawson's Creek is he mopes around and looks like he's pissed off-- James: He's very sensitive. Carson: What's his problem? James: Well, you know, he's--I don't know--I always call Dawson the geek in all of us. He's just a really sweet, kind of romantic, idealistic guy, and the writers didn't let him have sex for about, you know, five years. Pretty much, it's how it all works out. Carson: Is there a time where you just kinda wanna just beat the crap out of Dawson? You know, just James Van Der Beek. James: Yeah. Carson: That is lame. What is with him? James: Yeah, if I had to play just one more scene where I had to say no to having sex with some beautiful girl on the show-- Carson: At one point, you can no longer relate to your character James: It's starting to get a little unrealistic, especially since I'm getting to looking, like, a lot older. It just kind of seems silly after awhile. Carson: Glad you're here, we'll talk more. We'll bring that young lady up here. [Carson introduces a video] Carson: How will you say goodbye to your castmates? I mean, despite the fact that you're getting married now, you're ready to move on, you’re doing a lot of films and stuff, but this is really a cast that you and I first met about six years ago now, and you and Josh and Katie, you guys almost grew up together-- James: It's crazy, we've gone through this weird, bizarre thing together. I really won't say goodbye to them. It'll be tough saying goodbye to the crew, you know, 'cause they all live in North Carolina, but the cast, we'll keep in touch. Carson: Your guys' shooting was much different than any other show. You weren't shooting in LA on a lot. This was like a lifestyle. James: We were like on an island somewhere, it was just like 3000 miles from Hollywood, and all we really had were each other the whole time. Carson: Right. So, what will you do now, just continue with films, in fact you've got one out now-- James: Yeah, I've got a movie called "Rules of Attraction". It's a brutal film, brutally honest, it's rated R. No, seriously if you see it, it's good to see it with somebody older who you can talk to, because it's the opposite of Dawson's Creek. Carson: It's just that disturbing. James: It's really--it's rough, man. I mean, if you've got a sick sense of humor, this is going to be like your new favorite movie-- [laughter] Carson: You've just described youth all over America. I mean, look at Eminem's latest album out and it's got to be along those lines. James: He would probably appreciate it. Carson: This is the guy who wrote the movie "Pulp Fiction" who did your movie. James: Yeah, he co-wrote Pulp Fiction and wrote and directed this. It's based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel. Carson: Good, alright. Well, you'll be fine, and we look forward to seeing you in more films. Come back and see us anytime you're in New York. Where are you jetting off to now may I ask? James: Well, you know, I'm just going to hang in New York for awhile. Carson: Good. Oh, we gotta to say hi to this young lady. You want to say hi now? [to the girl] You want to come up here? James: She's all wet. Carson: What's your name? Girl: Kimberly. Carson: You tried to see him in New York and didn't get a chance to? Kimberly: I went all the way to Wilmington, North Carolina. James: Did you really? Kimberly: --and you guys [inaudible] James: You're kidding. Kimberly: I have every episode on tape, I know every line to every episode-- Carson: Well we only have 15 more minutes, so we'll let you guys hang out. Thanks a lot, James, good to see you. [James and Kimberly go off and he gives her a hug. Girls in the audience are shrieking in jealousy or glee--hard to tell.] Quelle: DDtheDCfan @ Fanforum.com, MTV.com, JVDB Online
