Interview with Tim Brownlow
It took about eight years for Tim Brownlow - lead singer of the London based combo Belasco - to find his way to the studio without his bandmates Bill Cartledge and Duff Battye. Now he recorded his own songs and went on tour through Germany with 15 gigs and his first EP in his backpack. In this interview you will get to know him better.

1. How would you describe your music in one sentence?
Short dark stories sung to indie folk music.
2. Was there something like a light bulb moment when you were young, maybe a concert, a certain song or a record that made you dream about a career as a musician?
I would love to say yes but sadly, no. I played another instrument from the age of 7 till 18. Another guy in the orchestra also had a guitar and I just had a go, everything felt perfect, apart from my bleeding fingers!
3. Are there any artists that might have influenced you some time?
Every musician is influenced by everything they hear or see. for me the most difining moment was listenning to "5 years" by D.Bowie
4. How do you develop your songs? What part comes first, music or lyrics?
Essentially the music, then certain words fit into the phrasing. I then know what the song is about and finish.
5. What song is most important to you? Why and how did it develop?
A song I wrote for my band, Belasco. The song is called "lawman" and it's about the death of my mother and the man responsible for it.
6. In what aspects did your music change compared to when you started to make music?
I was lyrically inept at the beginning.
7. What has been the best experience so far, as an artist?
I have been very fortunate to play at some great festivals throughout uk and europe, I have also played some amazing venues where you just don't want it to end. But right now it would have to be last night in Hannover at Feinkost Lampe, great audience, great venue and the people who run it are amazing.
8. What can you tell us about your current projects?
I have a solo ep out, "Behind Dark Trees" Tim Brownlow, I am due to record new material for the band belasco and I am doing a trance project with a producer friend. The project is called "Avatars" and is very exciting.
9. And what are you aspiring to in the future, what do you want to achieve?
Keep playing, keep enjoying it, play to more and try not screw up.
10. With whom would you like to go on tour?
Anyone at the moment. I'm touring around Germany on my own. You busy?
11. What record would we find in your CD-player right now?
Chas and Dave.
12. What do you think, as artists, about platforms like MySpace?
They're great, I'm seeing the benefits from it on tour.
13. myFanbase is a website that is devoted to American television shows. Do you have a favorite show?
