Exclusive Interview with Emad Alaeddin
Emad Alaeddin is a singer/songwriter and a close friend of Jason Manns. They met at college and were part of an acappella group there. They still perform together every now and again but soon Emad Alaeddin will be playing a few shows in Europe on his own to promote his new solo album "The Magic".

1. How would you describe your music in one sentence?
It's a celebration of the beauty of life; of both its brightest of highs and the darkest of lows.
2. Are there any artists that influenced and inspired you?
Alice in Chains and Michael Jackson. The vocals were just as important as the instruments so I try to emulate the equal and fair balance between the two.
3. What part comes first when you write a song, music or lyrics?
It starts with the guitar chords, then I hum the melody until the lyrics start to form in place of the hums.
4. Which of your songs is most important to you? Why and how did it develop?
Right now I'm excited about "Do You Dare" which will be featured on my upcoming album "The Magic"; it's about gaining the courage to ask questions and wonder what is wrong with the world and what can be done to fix it. We usually fear to question; but one is truly never free unless the minds are free to think for themselves with no boundaries.
5. In what aspects did your music change compared to when you started to make music?
I used to collaborate with other artists a whole lot more, which was a huge learning experience for me. As a solo artist, I now write all the parts, from the vocals to the guitar parts down to the bass line. I feel more free as an artist now, and I think this new album shows that.
6. What has been the best experience so far as an artist?
There's no better feeling than performing for a loving crowd who know and appreciate my music; it makes all the years of being ignored seem worth it. Every time I climb the stage and perform for a crowd that are giving me their 100% in return for my 100% it becomes my new ultimate experience. My awesome manager Ruba has been instrumental in developing my career to give me opportunities to have my music on MTV and Rolling Stone, and those experiences have been those that musicians dream about.
7. You sang in an acappella group with Jason Manns in college. Would you tell us a little bit about that time? What and where did you perform?
Jason and I were in the same freshman dorm building; the first time I'd met him we were hanging out in the same room with a couple of other friends. I remember grabbing a guitar and performing one of my originals I had just written and Jason humbly said "that was great, man, you think I can play on that for a sec?" I said "sure" thinking he'd just goof around, but when those first notes came out of him, the whole room was in silence and awe. I'll never forget that moment. A week later we tried out for the popular a cappella group and were two of three out of 100 or so students that made it into the frat-like group. We sang songs from The Verve Pipe to Billy Joel and toured at sororities and at colleges up and down the East Coast. We developed a unique bond on a musical and personal level, where we love to just goof on each other and remember the great moments of the past; every time we perform on stage together that bond solidifies further and even newer memories form. He's a true brother and someone I consider as one of my closest and dearest friends.
8. What are you aspiring to in the future, what would you like to achieve?
It's funny, I don't have a real grand plan. I love creating music and I love recording albums, and if that could be a permanent feature of my future, than I will have achieved what truly makes me happy.
9. What do like to do in your spare time aside from making music?
Spare time?! *lol* I have the two most wonderful dogs at home named Birdie and Bunny; they're husband and wife and we have a blast together! I box to keep in shape and I visit my Tete (grandma) regularly and eat her yummy food!
10. What do you as an artist think about connecting with fans via Twitter and Facebook?
The fans have become a solid part of my life and despite having a full-time dayjob and a full-time music career I always look forward to sitting down at the end of the day and reconnecting with them. Their support and love is something I treasure and hold near and dear to me.
13. myFanbase is a website that is devoted to American television shows. Do you have a favorite show?
I love "True Blood", "Hell's Kitchen", and "Breaking Bad"! People think "Breaking Bad" is a drug show, but to me it's a perfectly written story about a timid, sick man who transforms into this confident courageous figure that defeated all his fears and inhibitions. Something we can all inspire to be, minus the drug manufacturing part of course, *lol*
