Not so long ago, a few dozen New York City tourists missed what one reporter's roving eye spotted: the irresistably handsome Scott Speedman standing alone in Times Square, looking a little lost. After this fall, it's unlikely the shaggy-haired former Felicity costar will ever again go unnoticed. With two high-contrast roles--as Sarah Polley's sunny, devoted husband in the indie weep fest My Life Without Me and as the sensitive doctor turned werewolf and love interest of vampire Kate Beckinsale in The Matrix-like thriller Underworld--the 28-year-old Los Angeleno (by way of Toronto) has become one of Hollywood's hottest stocks. How did he enjoy his foray into Hugh Jackman territory? "I had seven hours of makeup, but I got to disappear into something. It was freeing," he says. The actor sounds even more excited about his turn as the working-class family man. "I play the adoring, lovable husband--I've never done that before. I'm usually the brooding guy, screwing somebody over." The man we first got to know on TV as the all but unattainable Ben insists that in real life, "I have no game with women. I'm pretty nervous around that whole thing." Doesn't he know that's the best game of all?
