You started acting when you were still a teenager and now you can look back at a huge repertoire of assignments. Did you ever do stage acting or did you know from the beginning that you would like to do movies and TV?

I started in stage. My mom had a theater company in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA and my sisters and I were in pretty much every production from the time I was 9 until 14. I moved to LA to go to performing arts high school, then to LAMDA in London for three years. I did tons of local and regional realism plays like "Burning Patience" and new works by Nilo Cruz as well as everything in between; even directed one or two. Film, TV and voice-over work was always there, but I built that path gradually, trying as hards as I could to be selective and pick the right roles to avoid typecasting.

Since season 2 you play the part of ADA Todd Denver in "How to get Away with Murder". How did you land this job?

This was one of those great phone calls we sometimes get from the agent. It was originally just supposed to be a couple of episodes.

Denver is a very strong-minded and success-orientated person. Are there some similarities between the both of you?

Some. I take pride in my professionalism but I'm not a ruthless dude. I'm a lot more laid back and zen.

At the end of season 2 it seemed like Todd and Annalise were on the same side. Did you expect to be back for season 3 and turn into kind of a villain?

NO! I only got a whiff of that twist during season 3 filming but had no clue where I was headed. I thought for sure I was going to be the "murdered" - still might be, I guess.

When Todd Denver kidnapped Connor it became clear that he is determined to solve the case. Do you believe there is something far more behind Denver's grudge against Annalise?

Fore sure! The writers have done a great job creating deep back stories with strong motivations so I'm excited to see what they have in mind and why.

While watching scenes between you and Viola Davis it seems like the two of you push each other to the best. How do you like working with her?

It doesn't feel like work at all, really. It's very creative and free flowing. I know that sounds like the complete opposite of what it looks like because of the tension in the scenes but we're playing a lot of chess in how we control our emotions and hide our attacks; it is all part of the gamesmanship with our characters and as actors it's very rewarding to play that: the ins and outs, the push and pull of it all. Of course, Ms. Davis is a master of her craft so doing this kind of work with her, especially, is sublime!

The finale of season 3 did answer many questions while at the same time bringing up some more. Will you be back for season 4 and be part of giving some more hints to the reason behind the death of Wes?

Definitely, the plan is to have me come back in season 4 but I really can't elaborate on what we have in store. he he

Thank you very much for making time for us, Benito, we wish you all the best for the future!
