June 21, 2012 | Montreal-based band La Greffe has just released their first EP "Rainbowland's Overview", a collection of four beautiful, rhythmic, melancholic and yet hopeful songs. As the band is gaining some momentum in Montreal - and hopefully abroad as well - we asked them our Soundcheck questions, talking about their music, their aspirations and favorite artists.

1. How would you describe your music in one sentence?

A dream in constant evolution grafting itself in inner fantasies and desires.

2. Was there something like a light bulb moment when you were young, maybe a concert, a certain song or a record that made you dream about a career as a musician?

It's difficult to tell because each of us have been playing music for such a long time. We all come from different places and each person here has his own story. Some of us have started playing music at a young age and some of us come from musician families. Music has been always part of our lives so I guess it's just our fate.

3. Are there any artists that might have influenced you or inspired you some time?

The Beatles of course! But also Pink Floyd and Genesis.

4. How do you develop your songs? What part comes first, music or lyrics?

Well most of the time Pierre comes with an idea, a theme or music or unfinished music. Then we work on it and shoot new ideas or change some stuff that sounds better with another idea and Pierre writes the lyrics at the same time the song is being created.

5. What song is most important to you? Why and how did it develop?

Efferg Al. It's the most representative of what we do and because it's the key of the stories of our songs.

6. In what aspects did your music change compared to when you started to make music?

We have matured musically and got more experience. The idea of the music we wanted to make is still the same, but we're more conscious about our sound.

7. What has been the best experience so far, together as a band?

Recording together! It was so much fun to be together, all the five of us in our tiny rehearsal space for a long time and do what we love.

8. What can you tell us about your current projects?

An EP coming soon and get some shows booked hopefully in Europe!

9. And what are you aspiring to in the future, what do you want to achieve?

We have so many things that we want to achieve and projects for the band, but we can't right now with our situation, so I guess we'll start by saying that living modestly with our music would be what we want to achieve first to complete the
rest.

10. With whom would you like to go on tour?

If the band still existed today, The Beatles.

11. What record would we find in your CD-player right now?

Mmmmm difficult question! We all have mp3 players and we listen to a lot of stuff, but we all agree with "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd.

12. What do you think, as artists, about platforms like Facebook, Twitter and mySpace?

Well we think it's a good way to get known and keep in touch with fans. It's easier than like 12 years ago, but it's still pretty difficult. You need to find a way to feed those platforms with a lot of good stuff to get people's attention. You need to learn HOW the platforms work and there's so many bands out there sharing the same platforms, so it's difficult to stand out of all these bands.

13. myFanbase is a website that is devoted to American television shows. Do you have a favorite show?

"South Park"!!!

Thank you for your time and all the best for the future! Special thanks to Youssef!
